From September 9th to September 13rd, the 12th European Conference on Radar in Meteorology and Hydrology (ERAD 2024), organized by CNR-ISAC and Sapienza University of Rome, will be held in the historical Campus of Sapienza (Rome).
The event will cover research and operational aspects focusing on clouds and precipitation physics based on radar observation, application of weather radar to hydrology and short-term weather forecasting, emerging technologies that are expected to improve the performance of current weather radar systems. Further topics concern current and future satellite missions that use radars to probe clouds and precipitation systems, and the exploitation of long-term weather radar observation to support climate studies.
Weather radars are used by weather services to monitor and provide short term-forecast of adverse weather conditions such as hurricanes, hailstorms, and intense rainfall, which can lead to floods or landslides, thereby enhancing citizen safety through early warning and improve the management of emergency. Researchers also utilize data from these radars to study the conditions that lead to cloud formation and precipitation, particularly intense events, and to improve weather forecasts and climate predictions.
ERAD 2024 is the most important event of 2024 focusing on radar meteorology and hydrology: more than 400 participants from 40 countries will gather in the Sapienza Campus to present and discuss the latest research results. Follow www.erad2024.it for more information on the conference
