2nd European Workshop: “Urban Heat Island and Heat Resilience: Networking for Future Strategy”

Date

LIFE ASTI is pleased to invite you to the “2nd European Workshop” online event on October 14, 2020. Placing safety first and following the lastest COVID-19 guidelines, it was decided to organize the event with no physical presence. We will be using instead the available technological tools and the participation of all attendees will take place virtually.

LIFE ASTI project targets the Urban Heat Island effect and its concequences, primarily on human mortality by developing, piloting and validating a set of modeling systems for short-term prediction, as well as for future projection, of the UHI effect in two Mediterranean cities, Thessaloniki and Rome. Six partners from Greece (Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Municipality of Thessaloniki, GET, Sympraxis Team) and Italy (DEP Lazio, ISAC-CNR) are collaborating for 3 years in order to deliver high-quality scientific information to stakeholders and general public, using appealing and modern tools.

The Second European Workshop aims to bring LIFE ASTI’s network together, exchange knowledge and expertise, and continue to build-up constructive synergies. In addition, the Workshop will be relevant with the replicability, transferability and integration perspectives of technologies, tools and good practices developed within LIFE ASTI and other related projects.

Crisis goes viral

Date
Speaker
Francesca Costabile

At the backdrop of the present situation, only weeks after the coronavirus has swept the nations, Istituto Svizzero invites to a debate about the meaning and manifestations of crisis. In contemporary usage the term “crisis” seems to have lost a lot of its urgency perhaps due to its ubiquity in political and economic discourse. During the event, the debate will focus on  what does crisis mean? What are its hallmarks? And what emerges from a state of crisis?

Among the participants, Francesca Cosabile (ISAC-CNR) will contribute with a talk entitled: “Does Air Pollution Influence COVID-19 Outbreaks?”

The live webinar is only upon registration on June 16th and 17th , 2020.

CULTURAL HERITAGE CHALLENGES CLIMATE CHANGE

Date

In spite of the significant resources addressed up to now at European level for safeguarding cultural heritage, still further efforts are required in order to guarantee a sustainable management of monumental complexes, archaeological sites and related collections exposed to extreme events linked to climate change.
In this perspective, tools for risk mapping, transnational preparedness strategies, coordinated evacuation plans in emergency situations and systems for early warning specifically dedicated to the protection of heritage assets, need to be set up and subsequently integrated in the approaches and international agreements for Disaster Risk Reduction and Management.
With its proposed outputs and solutions, the Interreg Project ProteCHt2save aims at supporting policy and decision makers in the short and long term management of cultural heritage at risk in Central Europe.

We welcome you to our Project Final WebConference!
