8th ISAC Summer School - PRECIPITATION: REMOTE SENSING AND MODELLING

Date:
Monday, 22 June, 2020 (All day) to Friday, 26 June, 2020 (All day)
Venue:
Hotel Orsa Maggiore, Castro Marina - Lecce - Italy

The 8th ISAC Summer School will be held from 22 TO 26 JUNE 2020 at the hotel Orsa Maggiore (http://www.orsamaggiore.it/) in Castro Marina, a very nice marine resort close to Lecce, in the Salento area on the south-eastern corner of Italy. This year, the topic will be on "PRECIPITATION: REMOTE SENSING AND MODELLING".
The purpose of this course is to provide an intensive and comprehensive review of our current knowledge of precipitation, considering in particular its remote sensing retrieval from satellite, radar and radiometers. Formation mechanisms, structure of precipitation system and predictability issues will also be discussed. The school is primarily addressed to PhD and Master students in atmospheric/hydrologic/environmental sciences, and regional meteorological agencies.

The lectures and seminars will be held by:
GIANPAOLO BALSAMO (ECMWF, Reading, UK)
Satellite data to constrain the water cycle in weather and climate

STEVEN J. GOODMAN (NASA-MSFC, Huntsville, AL, USA)
Use of satellite data in nowcasting

CHRIS KIDD (NASA-GSFC and Univ. of Maryland, Greenbelt, MD, USA)
Precipitation remote sensing from space

VINCENZO LEVIZZANI (CNR-ISAC, Bologna, Italy)
Precipitation formation mechanisms: microphysics and cloud structure

RICHARD ROTUNNO (NCAR, Boulder, CO, USA)
Structure of severe precipitation systems
