A new satellite precipitation product in EUMETView

A new satellite-based precipitation product has been added to the EUMETSAT web visualization service, EUMETView, since 4 June 2019. The product was developed within the EUMETSAT Satellite Application Facility on Support to the Operational Hydrology and Water Management (H SAF).  CNR-ISAC is a H SAF consortium member in charge for the scientific development of the satellite precipitation algorithms.

The precipitation product H03 P-IN-SEVIRI (PR-OBS-3B) has been recently added to the EUMETSAT web visualization service, EUTMETView. The satellite product was developed by the team of Satellite Meteorology of CNR-ISAC through a collaboration with Dr. F. J. Turk from the Jet Propulsion Laboratory - California Institute of Technology and operationally implemented by the Centro Operativo per la Meteorologia di Pratica di Mare (COMET) within the EUMETSAT H SAF. The H03 P-IN-SEVIRI consists of instantaneous precipitation estimates generated by infrared images over full disk. The data are acquired from operational geostationary satellites ‘calibrated’ by precipitation rate estimates from microwave radiometers on board Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellites, obtained through retrieval algorithms conceived at CNR-ISAC and belonging to the H SAF precipitation product catalog.
