ASTI - Implementation of a forecAsting System for urban heaT Island effect for the development of urban adaptation strategies

ASTI
acronym
ASTI
description

The ASTI project is aimed at designing, implementing, validating and piloting a set of forecasting systems for the short-term prediction of the urban heat island effect (UHI) during heat waves, and their impact on health in the two Mediterranean cities of Thessaloniki and Rome. The developed tools will also be used for assessing the impact of future climate change scenarios on UHI over Thessaloniki and Rome, and for quantifying the outcome of promoting mitigation plans to combat the UHI effect in the two selected cities. This will lead to the development of strategies for a better adaptation and mitigation of UHI impacts during summer heat waves, a reduction of the heat wave risk in metropolitan areas, and a better implementation of energy efficiency policies in European cities. More information can be found at LIFE ASTI website: www.lifeasti.eu. Note that a newsletter is active as well and it can be subscribed in order to receive more regular LIFE ASTI updates.
