HUMAN
I felt this section should be called simply "human", rather than humanitarian, or development, or international cooperation. Never as today the world has been so close to become a good place to live. Probably never as today we feel so far from that to happen. It is in our instinct to fight for survival, but I believe it is in our human nature to be serene when in peace with our neighbors. This can only happen if we share resources and avoid selection. Again even physics can teach us that unstable regions of a complex chaotic system can lead to unpredictable reactions. Not to mention what centuries of history, culture and inspired books can teach us.
Educational projects structured with the modern approach of "cooperation" can have an excellent effect on the development of youths and their self-determination. Until the geopolitical situation of these countries will not be solved, small stimulating educational projects are one of the most efficient tools for empowering disadvantaged peoples.
a World Home for Youth (WHY)
In 2004, my self and a few volunteers that worked together in Asmara (Eritrea), founded the association WHY (based in Trento, Italy) to promote actions in favor of disadvantaged youths. Because of our common experience with Asmara and youths, we started a project of school-support, enabling a large school in the poorest suburbs of Asmara to have extra activities that stimulate the personal development of kids.
A FEW EXPERIENCES
In 2003 I spent two months in Asmara (Eritrea), collaborating with the NGO GMA doing computer courses and with the home for street kids Casa Pavoni, teaching literacy and mathematics.
In 2002 I spent three months in India, half of the time in Dharamsala, teaching English to Tibetan refugees.
