----------------------------------------------------------------- 31/1 November 2005 ----------------------------------------------------------------- ____________________________ PIC DU MIDI ____________________________ OPERATOR Oscar van der Velde WEATHER CONDITIONS storm over southeastern France and Pic du Midi is entirely clear according to the sat image. VIEWING DIRECTION Pic du Midi operated late, since I had to bike to work. Upon arrival I tried some things because I thought the IP may not have access to the spritewatch system, which turned out to be unnecessary! The storm over southern France has had its best time just in the hour before the camera was turned on (1:00 am LT, 00 UTC). The storm almost diminished until the late night when it reactivated well, but daylight arrived at 5:25 UTC. ----------------------------------------------------------------- 9/10 November 2005 ----------------------------------------------------------------- ____________________________ PIC DU MIDI ____________________________ OPERATOR Oscar van der Velde WEATHER CONDITIONS Storms within reach; but clouds did not go away. ----------------------------------------------------------------- 10/11 November 2005 ----------------------------------------------------------------- ____________________________ PIC DU MIDI ____________________________ OPERATOR Oscar van der Velde WEATHER CONDITIONS Stationary storm complex northern Balearics Clear over Pic VIEWING DIRECTION To the north of the Balearic Islands. See logs for pan/tilt, etc. SPRITES: 5 0:56:46 1:11:31 2:34:13 2:43:46/47 2:56:13 including close-ups and hopefully photometer. ----------------------------------------------------------------- 11/12 November 2005 ----------------------------------------------------------------- ____________________________ PIC DU MIDI ____________________________ OPERATOR Oscar van der Velde WEATHER CONDITIONS a MCS grew off the east coast of Spain after midnight, and Pic du Midi saw over the clouds most of the time. VIEWING DIRECTION To the south of the Balearic Islands/Se coast of Spain. 160-175 deg SPRITES: 7 2:21:38 2:27:57 3:36:29 4:27:54 4:31:19 4:46:05 5:02:03 (this is 6 am local time!) PROBLEMS/COMMENTS The sprite events of 4:31 and 4:27 happened right in the middle, but I could not find any narrow-field frame that contained close-ups of the sprites, unfortunately. Strange. ----------------------------------------------------------------- 14/15 November 2005 ----------------------------------------------------------------- ____________________________ PIC DU MIDI ____________________________ OPERATOR Oscar van der Velde, since 00:56 UT Anna Odzimek VIEWING DIRECTION Mostly 42.5N 7EE PROBLEMS/COMMENTS Camera triggered madly, maybe becuase of cloudiness or cloud illumination from lightning, sprite-watch stopped 2 or 3 times becuase of that. No clouds over the camera all night! VIEWING DIRECTION To the NE coast of Spain. Starting already around 18 UTC, with a break to bike home (should be in event log) then continuously throughout the night, same direction. SPRITES: 4 22:12:43 22:47:36 22:51:18 23:15:31 COMMENTS Many images of the storm top flashes were obtained on purpose, which can be used as an optical indicator of lightning rates to compliment lightning detection systems. ----------------------------------------------------------------- 25/26 November (?) 2005 ----------------------------------------------------------------- ____________________________ PIC DU MIDI ____________________________ OPERATOR Oscar van der Velde WEATHER CONDITIONS electrified winter storms VIEWING DIRECTION cam briefly operated but no view, must have been covered by snow! Look for pan log to check date. ----------------------------------------------------------------- 2/3 December 2005 ----------------------------------------------------------------- ____________________________ PIC DU MIDI ____________________________ OPERATOR Oscar van der Velde WEATHER CONDITIONS weakly electrified winter storms to the west (strong +CGs), active storm northern Mediterranean/S-France VIEWING DIRECTION cam operated during the evening and early night, but no view, must have been covered by snow! PROBLEMS/COMMENTS Many missed frame reports! And no view due to covered lens. Lightning flashes near Pic du Midi did trigger the camera, the frames were just a bit lighter grey.
