Breve biografia

I am a specialist in the chemistry and physics of atmospheric aerosols, with a long standing focus on the marine environment. I hold a Ph.D. in Environmental Sciences (2009) from the University “Carlo Bo” of Urbino (Italy), and since 2006 my research has explored how ocean biogeochemistry shapes the physico-chemical properties of primary and secondary marine aerosol particles and how these processes influence the atmosphere and climate (e.g., by acting as ice nucleating particles). My doctoral work provided one of the earliest systematic characterisations of organic components in marine aerosol, helping to define the mechanisms driving organic matter enrichment in sea spray particles and the formation and transformation of secondary marine aerosols. In recent years, my activity has also expanded to the study of aerosol impacts on human health, including the development and application of metrics such as oxidative potential to better quantify exposure relevant properties of particulate matter. I have published 95 peer reviewed papers, with an H index of 35 (Web of Science, May 2026).
