Virna Loana Meccia

Short Bio

Virna Meccia is a climate scientist at the Institute of Atmospheric Sciences and Climate (ISAC) from the Italian National Council of Research (CNR), where she works in the Climate and Meteorology, modelling and Earth Observation division. With a background in physical oceanography, her research focuses on the ocean’s role in shaping the past and future climate change in the Earth system. She currently contributes to the Tipping Model Intercomparison Project and is a Lead Author of Chapter 8 -Abrupt changes, low-likelihood high impact events and critical thresholds, including tipping points, in the Earth system- for the IPCC Working Group I Seventh Assessment Report.
