Pollution Hot Spot Monitoring from GOME Applied to the Po-basin POLPO

POLPO investigates the feasability of applying satellite data for monitoring large pollution plumes. The prototype service demonstrate the application of GOME data for case studies. Users as, e.g., environmental agencies, who have to rely on ground-based measurements, will find the added value satellited data provide together with its limitations in the feasability study below. The tools to perform own case studies are provided with a guided application schedule and our free software tool (requiring IDL). Comprehensive documentation is available as pdf. Similar applications are expected with the data availability of the new instrument SCIAMACHY on ENVISAT, which records a wide range of species relevant for the Montreal and Kyoto protocols and emission restrictions.
