| Thursday 07.04.2005 | 1st meeting day at CNR-Bologna | |
| 13.30-14.30: | Possibility to have lunch at CNR-mensa from 13:30 to 14:30 (for those who arrive early enough at Bologna) | |
| 14:30-15:00: | Opening discussion on evt. necessary programme modifications main questions:
- do we need a specific administrative discussion at the end of day 2 or not - do we need a discussion how to produce the 2nd annual report or not - Coordinator's proposal: reduce administrative topics as much as possible and concentrate on scientific discussion - less partner orientated reports, more structured according to scientific topics |
|
| 15:00-15.30: | Comprehensive topic-reports - 20min each, no technical details, the CTRs shall
serve as a basis for next day's plenum brainstorming about last year's integrative research
(first mentioned partner to report mainly, others to provide material early enough
before the workshop - presentation sharing also possible)
- Topic 1: Instrumental data (ZAMG-CRU-ISAC-corresponding data providers): present state and immediate future "Development of the HISTALP 10-min-gridded precipitation dataset" (Dimitrios Efthymiadis) - Topic 2: Instrumental analysis (CRU-ISAC-ZAMG): first results on regionalisation, variability and trends, ... and plans, topics, problems, interests for the future "Monthly precipitation data-set: first results on regionalisation, variability and trends" (Michele Brunetti) - Topic 3: Tree-ring data (WSL-BOKU-UIBK-UPAD-UANC-UPAV-UTOR-?) - Topic 4: Tree-ring analysis (WSL-BOKU-UIBK) |
|
| 15.30-16.00: | coffee break | |
| 16:00-17:30: | Comprehensive topic-reports continued
- Topic 5: Snow and Ice (GIUZ, ZAMG) mass balance, length and snow data, first glacier-climate results, visualisations,.. "Overview activities GIUZ: past/ongoing/future" (Martin Hoelzle) "Results: Alpine glacier fluctuations 1850-2000: an overview and spatio-temporal analysis of available data and its representativity" (Michael Zemp) - Topic 6: Ice cores 1 (IUP, GIUZ) new data, re-analyses, etc... - Topic 7: Ice cores 2 (CEA, IUP, GKSS) modelling aspects - Topic 8: Modelling (GKSS, ZAMG, ISAC) state of the REMO-run and first comparisons with data "Modelling outlook: 'Call for Data' for distributed modelling of regional equilibrium line altitude and glacier mass balance in the Alps" (Michael Zemp) "Results: First climate related analyses of a recovered Alpine long-term glacier variability dataset" (Wolfgang Schëner) "High-Resolution modelling with the water isotope module of the meso-scale model REMO: A step towards a calibration of isotope records in complex terrain." (Georg Hoffmann) "Comparison of a high-resolution simulation and observations over the Alpine area" (Kerstin Proemmel) |
|
| EVENING PROGRAM | Dinner at "Cesarina" Restaurant (Via S. Stefano, 19/b) | |
| Friday 08.04.2005: | 10.00-11.20: | parallel working group round table sessions:
- Instrumental + modelling "Alpine climate variability in relation to large-scale variations" (Dimitrios Efthymiadis) - Tree-rings - Snow and ice and related modelling "Modelling I: Distributed modelling of regional glacier equilibrium line altitude for the periods of 1971-1990 and around 1850" "Modelling II: Distributed mass balance modelling for the periods of 1971-1990 and around 1850" |
| 11.20-11.40: | Coffee break | |
| 11:40-13:00: | Plenum round table on last project year's research topics
- Part 1: what will come from the single research fields (short reports about yesterday's subgroup sessions and FAQs from the not involved partners) |
|
| 13.00-14.30: | lunch break at CNR-mensa | |
| 14:30-end of afternoon: | Plenum round table on last project year's research topics
- Part 2: integrative research topics - Topic list (to be completed, ) "Integration of new Austrian glacier front variation dataset into WGMS database" (Wolfgang Schëner, Michael Zemp, Martin Hoelzle) "2nd revision of Italian front variation data" (Giancarlo Rossi, Michael Zemp, Martin Hoelzle) - reliability of early instrumental data versus proxy findings (e.g.: the cold bias of pre 1850 tree-ring temperatures versus instrumental (or vice versa??) - high early spring-summer temperatures plus high summer-autumn precipitation vs. glacier variability vs. ice-cores and also other findings (ph-values in lakes...) - air pressure derived lower troposphere temperature series vs. REMO - general model-instrumental consistency |
|
| Somewhere near 4 pm: | coffee break
- Part 3: production of a definite list of planned main project-publications (contents, lead authors, author teams, etc...) and Cross-check against the project's working plan |
|
| 17.30 to 18.00: | Estimated end of workshop |
Where are we in Bologna
How to reach us
From Station: From the central station "Bologna Centrale" either get a taxi right out of the station (fare around 5 euros) or bus number 87 (see bus time table).
First get the bus ticket from the bus company office (ATC) located on your right in the station building (you can get them from newsstands too). Cross the square in front of the station and then turn left (see the map).
The bus stop is located right in front of the bus station (Autostazione) at the beginning of via Indipendenza.
The bus stops at the front gate of the "CNR Area della Ricerca".
If you like you can reach the "CNR Area della Ricerca" within 20 minutes on foot! (see the map).
By car (see the map):
- From Milano or Firenze From the "Autostrada del Sole A1" exit at "Bologna Borgo Panigale".
Take the outer ring "Tangenziale" and go out at the Exit No. 5 "Uscita Lame". Turn left and proceed down "via Marco Polo" following the white arrow sign "CNR Area della Ricerca".
After the second traffic light you find a rotatory and must turn left down "via Yuri Gagarin". After passing under the railway bridge you find another rotatory and turn left taking "via Gobetti".
Follow the "CNR Area della Ricerca" sign and you'll be right here!
- From Verona and Austria From the "Autostrada del Brennero A22" (Brenner Autobahn) in Modena take the "Autostrada del Sole A1" direction Bologna-Firenze.
Then follow the above indications for Milano-Firenze.
- From Padova-Venezia From the "Autostrada A13" from Padova-Venezia exit at "Bologna-Arcoveggio".
Turn right taking the outer ring "Tangenziale" direction west. Go out at Exit No. 5 "Uscita Lame". Then follow the above indications for Milano-Firenze.
- From Ancona-Bari From the "Autostrada Adriatica A14" exit at "Bologna S.Lazzaro". Take the outer ring and go out at the Exit No. 5 "Uscita Lame". Then follow the above indications for Milano-Firenze.
