Excerpts from the CNR mandate to the Institute:
"The Institute is established to carry on activities of research, promotion and technology transfer in the
following disciplines:
The territorial sections provide administrative, organisational, and logistic support
to the research activities. The scientific sections promote and directly carry out the scientific work. Therefore, the same
scientific section is normally present in different territorial sections.
The Institute was founded in 2001 and merged pre-existing CNR Institutes and sections over the coutry:
- Meteorology and its applications,
- Climate change and predictability,
- Atmospheric structure and composition,
- Observations of the planet Earth.
The headquarters are in Bologna and five among sections and units are located around the country:
