Research Activity

Aerosol composition, atmospheric aerosol sources and aerosol evolution processes in the troposphere. Focus on chemical composition and formation processes of organic marine aerosols.

Matteo Rinaldi is a researcher at the Atmospheric Chemistry group of the Institute for Atmospheric Sciences and Climate (ISAC), within the Italian National Research Council (CNR). His research interests are in aerosol composition, atmospheric aerosol sources and aerosol evolution processes in the troposphere. Particularly, during his Ph.D. and following post-doctoral activity at CNR-ISAC he investigated chemical compositions and formation processes of organic marine aerosols, through an ensemble of analytical techniques (elemental analysis, ion chromatography, liquid chromatography, proton nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy and surface tension measurements). He received his Ph.D. in Environmental Sciences from the University of Urbino (Italy) in 2009, defending a thesis titled “Marine aerosol: distinguishing properties of primary and secondary components”.
