Life Cycle Assessment Modeling


Modeling chain of health and environmental damage caused by emissions and consumption of materials related to the life cycle of any product, process or system within a defined boundary. The evaluation of the life cycle (Life Cycle Assessment), introduced in 1993 by SETAC (Society of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry), is a method of systematic analysis that quantifies and assesses the impacts of a product throughout the life cycle by quantifying flows of matter and energy input and emissions output in the early stages of raw material extraction, transportation, manufacturing, use and end of life.
The chain is based on a suite of defined processes and correlated inventories of emissions and fuel consumption (ecoinvent, database UNIMORE, etc..) and computer codes (SimaPro) and impact models (Eco-indicator EPS IMPACT), updatable by the research work.
