Satellite and Modelled Aerosol

Here we present a qualitative comparison of MODIS NRT data (total AOD) and model output (AODEM -  Mineral Dust Optical Depth and CHIMERE - Crustal fraction of PM10 at ground level) generated in the framework of the I-AMICA Project.

Please note that due to issues with the provision of MODIS NRT data, some maps can be not updated.

Legend

  • MODIS NRT data-products are taken by https://earthdata.nasa.gov/about-eosdis/system-description/lance/modaps/.... The local equatorial crossing time is approximately 10:30 a.m. for Terra and approximately 1:30 p.m. for Aqua satellite;
  • MODIS/Terra Near Real Time (NRT) Aerosol 5-Min L2 Swath 10km (Collection 005) and MODIS/Aqua Near Real Time (NRT) Aerosol 5-Min L2 Swath 10km (Collection 005) are remapped over EUR54 domain day by day;
  • WRF run is performed by using operational NOMADS files;
  • CHIMERE run is carried out over European domain (EUR54, the mather domain of other two nested domains, ITA18 and IAM6). The inventory emission is taken by EMEP dataset (i.e. http://www.emep.int/), the meteorology by WRF (as reported at previous point)
  • AODEM run is performed by using CHIMERE outputs;
  • AODEM and CHIMERE output are plotted only for pixels over which MODIS data were available
